Lucy's "Fun in the Sun" 1st Birthday Party!

Ha yes, playing catch up with blog posts. But with so much happening the past few months I don't feel bad.

One nice thing about having a summer birthday is the easy birthday parties. Just go to a pool and boom, easy party. The only bad thing about pool parties is being reliant on good weather...which of course during Lucy's party and completely random storm cloud blew through while everyone was out swimming and then it was sunny again 30 min later. Just my luck. But Lucy had such a great time with all of the family we had over and her little boyfriend Quinn.

Brent forced her to smash her cake instead of just pick at it

She absolutely hated her smash cake. She has never been one to like getting her hands dirty. Usually if they get dirty she just stands there holding her hands out until I clean them off. Definitely a girly girl.

She LOVES her baby doll

She loved the bubble machine
Figured out how to stand but wouldn't take any steps

LUCY: 12 M O N T H S

How is it possible my baby is 1?? Fastest year of our lives! I look back at her pictures when she was a tiny newborn and can't even see a resemblance. Those days seem like yesterday though, but at the same time I am so glad she isn't a newborn! I love her little personality.

Stats|
Weight: 22lbs (80%)
Height: 31in (96%)
Head: 17.5in (37%)

Fun facts|
  • Size 4 diapers. Shirt size 18mo, bottoms 12-18mo.
  • Last month was the month of teething! Went from 4 teeth to 10 (8 in the front and then two top molars)!
  • Generally sleeps 7pm-7am. Still takes 2 naps that are usually 1.5 hr long (as long as we are home). Still won't nap if we are over at someone else's home no matter how tired she is.
  • Favorite songs: twinkle twinkle, rock-a-bye-baby, wheels on the bus
  • Loves the flip the flap books and touch and feel books
  • Favorite animal sound in a monkey. She is starting to try and mimic most of the animal noises.
  • Loves her baby doll, but mostly loves to steal its tiny plastic pacifier
  • Starting to be more clingy
  • Still only says "Hi" and then just babbles in her alien baby language. Says "Uh oh" sometimes.
  • Standing on her own! but hasn't taken any steps yet
  • Loves berries (like her mama)! Strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries.
  • Loves swimming!
  • Loves climbing onto anything and everything.
  • Still puts everything into her mouth. (can't wait for that to stop!)
  • Loves to point to what she wants or where she wants to go.

LUCY: 11 M O N T H S

The only way to get her to sit still is to give her a book
It is seriously bizarre that my baby is this old already and I am starting to plan her 1st birthday! :(
This stage is easy in some ways, harder in others, but is generally so much fun! I am loving her sassy little personality that is coming out.

Fun Facts |
  • Still only has 4 teeth
  • Wearing size 4 diapers and in 12-18 month clothes
  • Her hair is coming in a very light brown/almost blonde (like mine was as a baby/toddler) and has some curl to it!
  • Generally sleeps from 7:30pm-7:30am with two 1.5 hour naps during the day.
  • Loves to make silly faces: "o" face, kissy face, fish face, big open mouth
  • Walks along furniture really well. As soon as she holds onto our hands she takes off as fast as she can. But she doesn't trust herself to stand on her own and balance yet.
  • Says "Hi" in a high pitched voice all day long and it's the cutest thing. Also says "dada" and "mama".
  • Starting to figure out how to wave
  • Loves to clap
  • Bath time is still her favorite
  • Is the happiest when she is around other kids, especially her cousins
  • Likes drinking from her sippy cup
  • Loves eating solids and is starting to get more table food
  • More interested in looking at her books by herself
  • Gets so excited when she sees Izzy in the morning and gives her pets
  • Ticklish on her chest and feet
  • Still obsessed with shoes and socks
  • The weirdest thing she does is gag herself! She thinks its hilarious. She will do it over and over to the point I think she is going to literally make herself throw up!
  • Went on her first plane ride and nice and quiet but never wanted to stop moving. She is not a fan of sitting on a lap for long. The ride there was exhausting because she only slept 30 min..the ride home was better and she slept half of the way. 10pm flights are not the way to go.

My 1st Mother's Day

Brent did an amazing job making me feel loved and special for my first mother's day. A pretty orchid (which was delivered broken so we got another for free which was also broken so we got credit for a different bouquet! 3 flowers for the price of one haha), a cute card which Brent tried and failed to outline Izzy's paw and Lucy's hand on (it was the thought), and a gift card to go get a much needed massage! He also had to speak in church that day so I got to hear how much he appreciated me and how great I am at being a mom over the pulpit :) He gave a great talk.
I love being a mom. I love it so much. And I am so blessed to have Lucy and Brent and I can't forget about our little black dog Izzy.

To honor my amazing mom and mother in law we had to give them a cute picture of Lucy to show how much she loves them! We love that we are so close to both of them and that Lucy can have a close relationship with them.

BFFS JANC

So there is no good acronym for our names but whatever. You know those people who you can always count on, always call for any reason, can go forever without talking but it feels like you never went a day, you can sit with for hours and it feels like minutes? Yes these are my people. And I love when we can get together. Our goal is a girls weekend reunion trip once a year for the rest of our lives! If only we could all be neighbors. Once you are married you have your married friends and once you are a mom you form your mom friends, but nothing can replace your straight up girl friends.
It just happened to work out that Nicole and I were in Utah at the same time. Jenne and Ciera both live there so this reunion was meant to be :)

As you can see, it's a brunette only club. And meeting Jenne's newest little boy was the cherry on top!
Can't wait for our next get together ladies!!!

The Tulip Festival

This spring you can tell that we wanted to enjoy flowers, and so we did! Dallas Arboretum, bluebonnets, and now the Tulip Festival at Thanksgiving Point in Utah. Yes it cost a crisp $20 bill to get in, but it was well worth it!! I couldn't believe how pretty it was. We walked those paths and enjoyed those tulips for 2 and a half hours. Thankfully the weather (which was rainy every day after graduation!) held out and though it looked like it was going to pour on us all afternoon it didn't! The dreary weather probably helped keep all of the crowds away which made the afternoon even more enjoyable. We also met up with my SIL, Mary, and cute little nephew George! I wish they lived by us in Texas :(
Such a great Auntie

Both tots were catching up on zzzzz's
SO PRETTY!

I love George's grumpy face

Heather (and I) Graduated!

I am obviously more excited that I finally graduated with my Bachelors degree in Public Health emphasis Health Science (so so so happy to be done!). But since I didn't care to fly up to Rexburg, ID to walk across the stage at BYU-I this post will be more about going up with Lucy and my parents to Provo, UT to watch my little sister graduate! And though I took about 500 pictures of her over a span of 2 days, I will spare you and just post a few. Lucy was a gem of a baby while we were up in Utah and just napped where she could and was generally pretty happy all the time! I seriously love my baby girl.

I borrowed one of her best friend's cap and gown for my graduation picture :)
